St Louis made an early bid for glory dashing away from Josyan and Iroquois, but as soon as they settled the favourite was steadied. At the rising hills Josyan and Falkirk went on together, but as they came over the hill the course was clouded in fog and it was only after passing the Red House that it was obvious the two leaders were a spent force, with Ishmael choosing to make his move. Two furlongs out Fred Archer called on the favourite for an effort and he drew steadily clear. At the line he was eased to win cleverly by a length from Geologist in 3 minutes 20.6 seconds, with 3/4 length back to Lucy Glitters. In winning his second Classic, having already landed the Derby, Iroquois beacme the first American bred throughbred to land English Classics. In a career consisting of 26 races he won 12 and was second on 4 further occasions. | Over Round 109% |
